Here is a great FX demo reel example. It is powerful, short and makes you want more. Peter Sanitra was born in Slovakia in 1980 and started CG with 3D studio R4. Currently lives in Prague. 
He describes himself as a generalist, but his reel does not show this, he is much more than that. His portfolio shows a lot of newer work and is more reflective of a generalist. I still think he is more than just a generalist. It was created in 2006 and seems to have gotten him tons of work.
